Pornography, like any other addictive behavior never gives what it promises to. At first, it starts with an expectation of acquiring a little pleasure which is followed by excitement and later it feels overloaded and then bit by bit it makes you feel hollow deep inside filled with guilt.

As a youngster, it is very easy to fall prey to porn, as it seems to be very attractive which silently assures to fill you with pleasure which ultimately turns into pain,as it infects our mind with unclean thoughts. It is something which will make us say, “This is the last time and that last time never actually occurs.”

Last month, I had attended a seminar led by a female professor from MCC College Chennai on the topic “Addiction” .Majorly; she focused on pornographic addiction since many youngsters are addicted to it. She said,”Currently there is no college or a university student who’ll be able to say that he/she has never watched porn” Really? Can you yourself say that? Yes, you may not be a porn-addict but you cannot deny the fact that you’ve never watched it for once.Barely, 2-3% of the population is present who may have never viewed porn.

In 2008,  THE INDIA TODAY magazine published reports on sex survey; according to which sources have found that India can no more be thought of as a socially and sexually conservative country as the figure reveals that, “Sixty two percent of men and one in five women in India watch porn”. I repeat, one in five women, disgusting enough? A porn site named as PORNHUB revealed it’s statistic on Indian porn viewers which states as, “As per 2014 porn hub had more female viewers than male viewers”

I myself being a university student feel dejected when I see my friends and other students carrying  porn videos with them in their mobile phones, pen-drives, CD’s, external hard disk etc.

A foremost question has been arising amongst the youngsters nowadays which is, “I have been become addicted to pornography and it’s ruining my life. What can I do to break this addiction?”

You may not be addicted to porn in fact you may be a person who never viewed it but definitely you may know a person who is in it and someone who watches it more often. Continue reading for them.

Porn, according to the dictionary simply means works that depicts or describes sexually explicit conduct which appeals to one’s lustful erotic interests. These might be in any form like books, magazines, video cassettes, discs, websites, chips etc.

Addiction can be understood as a habit that seems unable to give up, because the more it is practiced, the less satisfying it feels. Many people say, ‘pornography gives pleasure’ but at the same time they are unaware that pornography don’t just provide with pleasure instead it is a combination of “Pleasure and Guilt”)

For the person who indulges in porn, the purpose of sex for him changes to, ‘The satisfaction of erotic needs’ where as the purpose of sex should be ‘Love and the communication of life’. It drives a man to value a woman only for what she gives rather than for the person she is.

Men who view pornography regularly have a higher tolerance for abnormal sexuality including rape, incest, fornication, and sexual aggression. The married couples who use pornography basically ruin their life as they feel less satisfied and their emotional attachment breaks and this result in destroying the love between them and they no longer enjoy sex with each other giving way to adultery or spouse swapping. Finally, they are left with broken homes.

A pornographic victim at last masturbates as a result of his sexual urges and masturbation may temporarily relieve his sexual desires but it never takes to the fulfillment. According to Christianity, ‘Sexuality is meant to be a gift between husband and wife for the purpose of conception’ and when it is taken out of that context (in the form of masturbation), the gift is degraded. How? Due to masturbation the center of the sexual act becomes ‘ME’ instead of ‘WE’ and the person is trained to look to himself rather than his partner for sexual fulfillment.

The very first step is Realization, you have to realize that you have sinned and then a firm decision. The next step you have to do is to make a covenant with your eyes since, ‘Eye is the door to your soul and the road to your heart’ as a man of god named job says in

JOB: 31: 01 which reads like this,

“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman”

This is the very important step, first we have to defeat our lustful nature.

Jesus when talking to people said this which is quoted in MATTHEW: 05: 28 as,

“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart”

Yes, if you are lusting towards someone then you’re committing adultery.

To shed more light on this, I read another scripture from book of

MATTHEW: 06:22-23 which reads as,

“The eye is the lamp of the body if your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.

But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.”

Yes, if your eyes are addicted to something or you’re lusting towards someone then no doubt you’re living in dark. Now, if you’re living in a darkness then the only choice left is to move towards the light. But which light? Who is that light? Which light am I talking about? That’s JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus said in JOHN: 12: 46 which reads as,

“I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the darkness.”

Put your trust on Jesus, he can reform you, he can change your life, he can give you a new and pure heart. As, he is the light and in him there is no darkness.

As John says in JOHN: 01:05 which reads as,

“He is the light that shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it”

“Try Jesus”

1) Realize your sinful activity.

2) Make a covenant with your eyes and with god.

3) Clean your Computer, Mobile phones, Burn all the Pornographic magazines, Clean your hard drives, Pen drives etc.,

4) Move your computer from privacy to the open living room.

5) Cut off bad relationships and friends that promote sin.

6) Avoid staying alone rather spend more and more time with family.

7) Avoid sleeping alone in privacy rather sleep with open curtains in the bedroom.

8) Make yourself busy and work hard until your body get tired which will give you good sleep.

Most importantly ask JESUS for help as it is testified by many as Jesus helped them during this process to overcome their addictive behavior. Jesus is the only hope as he is the one who died behalf of you on the cross for your sins. We may be feeling guilty with a question, Will Jesus accept me? As we have sinned against him. You must understand this very clearly, Jesus Christ did not come to earth and die on a cross to kick you while you are down; he did not come to condemn but to rise up and save.

We are not the enemies of the almighty, we are his beloved sons and daughters in whom, he is well pleased, his love is cleansing love, it burns, breaks and liberates and he is more eager to rescue you from this sin. No matter how many times you have tried and fallen down. The mercy of god is INFINITE and ENDLESS.

  3. I was at prayer meeting this morning and we were praying for a parent of a student who just left his wife and five kids and one of the issues was pornography. We prayed for him. Because a man in a former church once stood up to talk about how he overcame his addiction to porn, I understand the bull dog nature of it. The man in Christ has a loving wife and was able to break free of his addiction, although many who are rebellious toward Christ never do. Thanks for posting on this difficult topic and from the perspective of a Christian.

Thank you for sharing bro. I agree with all that you said, and especially with the steps outlined in how to overcome the addiction. Making it a daily habit to read or listen (even watch) the Word will help to overcome. The author of the letter to the Romans had something along the same lines in mind when he penned ‘. . . but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.’ Leaving the mind blank is not an option, there must be continual input of new & godly information. But of course as you said, without God, overcoming will be impossible. Blessings

  5. Pornography is a sin of the flesh against God and who He has created us to be. God says in 1 Corinthians that we are to abstain from sexual immorality and glorify God with our body and spirit.
